A Word About The Owners:
And Wine 2 was established in 2004 as a joint venture between Dr. Thomas Mendolia and Christopher Magee. Like a lot of other small companies it started with an idea and a prayer at a home computer, but has since grown into it’s own office space complete with a wine cellar and it continues to grow daily.
Tom is a native of Long Island, New York who relocated to North Carolina 14 years ago. He is a husband, father of three, practicing gastroenterologist, and also is an entrepreneur of real estate, restaurants, a billing company, and a research company. He has always had a “taste for wine” in the sense that he both enjoys drinking it and also has a keen interest in the production and marketing aspects of it.
Chris, also a Long Island native, has been living in North Carolina with his wife and three small children for 10 years. He has been an Executive Chef for 18 years and has had the privilege of working for Nick and Toni’s in the Hampton’s, and for Morton’s of Chicago steakhouse among others. His love of food naturally led to an interest in wines and the ways that they can add to a dining experience. He has a firm belief that dining should be more than just a way to satisfy one’s hunger, it should also be a creative experience that can satisfy one’s soul and enrich their life. He has learned that wines can greatly expand the depths of food flavors and add to the overall enjoyment and impact of a meal.
Tom and Chris were introduced to each other by a mutual friend in the spring of 2004 and quickly realized that in addition to their New York roots they also shared the common bond of an interest in the study of wines. They both were intrigued regarding the establishment of a wine industry in the Yadkin Valley of North Carolina and the idea for a company was born. Their desire is to not only provide wines at competitive prices with fast and reliable shipping, but also to offer personalized assistance with procuring special items and to be able to offer suggestions for new and different selections to expand their customer’s enjoyment. They purchase from a small select number of venders and pride themselves on being able to locate rare and unique wines in addition to the more popular selections.
Together they have discovered that the enjoyment of fine wine is not, and should not, be limited to only those people who have spent a lot of time learning about it. It is not something that should intimidate the new-comer or be reserved for special occasions only. They hope to demystify wine and make it a part of our everyday lives so that when we are at the grocery store our lists will include eggs, milk, bread, and wine too!
